MOBILE, Ala. - The Illinois State men's golf team finished South Alabama's Mobile Sports Authority Intercollegiate in 12th place Tuesday at the par-72, 7,212-yard Magnolia Grove Crossings Golf Course. The Redbirds shot their best round of the tournament despite rainy conditions, carding a 3-over-par 291 to finish with a three-round total 890 (297-302-291). Louisville topped the 15-team field with an 8-under-par 856 (284-283-289), three strokes ahead of the host Jaguars, and six strokes ahead of Mississippi State and Chattanooga.

Sophomore Trent Wallace led the way once again for the Redbirds after matching his second-round score of 1-under-par 71 (34-37). He also fired three birdies and tied for the second-most birdies (13) in the tournament. Wallace's performance was good enough for an impressive ninth-place tie on the individual leaderboard with a score of 2-under-par 214 (72-71-71).

Freshman David Perkins also finished the final round with an impressive 1-under-par 71 (36-35), which was a three-stroke improvement from the previous two rounds. His performance was good enough for a 25th-place tie on the individual leaderboard with a total score of 3-over-par 219 (74-74-71). Perkins also carded two birdies on the day.

Junior Zach Burry fired an impressive 2-under-par 70 (33-37) in the final round, including four birdies and an eagle on the sixth hole. His score was a 10-stroke improvement from the previous round. Burry finished with a three-round total of 9-over-par 225 (75-80-70).

Senior Christian Crabill finished the tournament with 239 (83-77-79) after finishing the final round with a 7-over-par 79 (40-39), including two birdies. Senior Austin Havens did not compete in the final round due to a wrist injury in the previous round. Junior Jason Marrs finished the final round of the USA Individual Tournament with an 8-over-par 79 and finished with a total score of 27-over-par 240 (80-81-79).

"Trent [Wallace], Dave [Perkins], and Zach [Burry] gave us three great rounds in very tough conditions and helped us post one of the best team scores of the day," head coach Ray Kralis said. "We battled steady rains all day, and I was proud of the way the guys handled the mental challenge. In the big picture, I am pleased with the way we bounced back after a disappointing first day and look forward to a productive couple of weeks gearing up for Florida State. On an individual note, Trent [Wallace] showed flashes of brilliance and mental toughness and picked up another top-10 finish. Dave [Perkins] was also a bright spot throughout, giving us three solid rounds to finish in the top 25."

The Redbirds return to action March 10-12 to compete in Florida State's Seminole Intercollegiate at the Southwood Golf Club in Tallahassee, Florida.
