CHICAGO, Ill. – After helping Illinois State reach its best score of the year last weekend against Central Michigan, freshman Gabrielle Cooke was named the Midwest Independent Conference Gymnast of the Week Tuesday.
Cooke had a second-place finish on the balance beam with a score of 9.750, to help her win the all-around competition with a career-high score of 38.950. Central Michigan placed first with a score of 194.950. The Redbirds were close behind with their best score of the year so far of 194.075.
Cooke took fifth place in two events with scores of 9.850 on floor and 9.775 on vault. She also scored a 9.575 on bars, placing her in the top ten on all events.
The Redbirds return home on Sunday, Feb. 12, to host the Southeast Missouri State Redhawks at Horton Field House at 2 p.m.
