COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Fresh off a doubleheader sweep of Western Kentucky Sunday at Nick Denes Field, the Illinois State baseball team will head to Tennessee Tech for a two-game, midweek series with the Golden Eagles.
Illinois State (4-8) and Tennessee Tech (11-5) will play Tuesday at 6 p.m. and Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Tennessee Tech's Bush Stadium.
The Redbirds return to action after taking two of three games at Western Kentucky to begin the team's annual spring break road trip. The Redbirds lost Friday's opener at WKU, 13-6. After postponing Saturday's game due to expected cold temperatures, the Redbirds swept a doubleheader Sunday, by scores of 12-4 and 4-3, to win the series and snap a seven-game losing streak.
Both of Sunday's wins came down to the wire. Illinois State broke a 4-4 tie with eight runs over the final two innings to win the opener, and then fended off a late comeback bid in the nightcap, stranding the potential game-tying and winning runs in scoring position in the bottom of the ninth inning.
After playing the midweek series at Tennessee Tech, Illinois State will conclude its spring break trip with a three-game series at Lipscomb, in Nashville, Tennessee, Friday through Sunday.
