Redbird Track and Field Concludes Day One at Ole Miss

Day One Results

OXFORD, Miss. – The Illinois State men's and women's track and field teams wrapped up day one of the Joe Walker Invitational with many event winners and personal-best performances.

All-American Derrius Rodgers had a stellar season opener in the 200-meter dash as he won the event with a personal-best time of 20.89, which is the sixth fastest in school history. His time is leading the Missouri Valley conference, is ranked second on the NCAA Division I West leaderboard and fourth in the nation. He will come back tomorrow to run a leg in the men's 4x100-and 4x400-meter relays.

Amanda McClain also had a spectacular outdoor-season opener as she won the women's long jump with a mark at 5.90m (19-04.25). Her mark is leading the Missouri Valley Conference, is tied for eighth in the west region and is ranked 18th in the nation. She will also come back tomorrow to run a leg in the women's 4x100- 4x400-meter relays.

Jack Anstey had an impressive performance in the men's 1,500-meter run as he won the event with a time of 3:49.12, which is ranked eighth on ISU's all-time best list. His time is leading the MVC, is ranked ninth on the NCAA Division I West leaderboard and 15th in the nation.

In the 5,000-meter run, freshman Kevin Koski paced the Redbirds as he finished third with a time at 15:15.75, while Jeff Bajema finished fifth with a time of 15:47.62.

In the field events, Brandy Thomas led the way for the Redbirds as she placed third with a personal-best mark in the women's hammer throw. Thomas threw a distance of 49.79m (163-11.50) which is ranked 10th on ISU's all-time best list. Her mark is also leading the MVC. She will come back tomorrow and compete in the shot put.
