NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State swimming and diving team has added to its 2017-18 roster, as head swimming coach Scott Cameron and head diving coach Phil Hoffmann announced the signing of five student-athletes to National Letters of Intent on Wednesday.
"We are very excited to announce our spring signees for the 2017 incoming class. Every student-athlete that we are bringing in will be able to step in and contribute from day one," Cameron said. "This group has a lot of versatility, and along with our fall signees, will add a lot of depth and speed to our team in all of the events in the pool and on the boards. While each girl brings a different quality to the team, they will all make great Redbirds."
The new Redbirds are (listed alphabetically): Andie Bernhardt (Kenosha, Wis./Indian Trail HS), Morgan Clark (Picton, Ontario/PECI), Jordan Peterson (Bloomington, Ill./Bloomington HS), Morgan Rosser (Ames, Iowa/Ames HS) and Abi Shewchuk (Winnipeg, Manitoba/College Sturgeon Heights).

Andie Bernhardt
Hometown: Kenosha, Wis.
High School: Indian Trail High School
Club Teams: Indian Trail (two years), Schroeder Club (two years)
Career Highlights: Broke school record for 6 and 11 dives senior year … voted team's most valuable diver senior year … earned Indian Trail Academic Award … posted highest grade-point average on team senior year … member of honor roll.
Hoffmann on Bernhardt: "I am very excited to add Andie to the mix of divers for the upcoming season. She's a very passionate young woman who is very excited to become a Redbird. On top of that, she is preparing as we speak to make the jump to the college level with her club team in Wisconsin. I couldn't be more excited to get her on campus and get to work."
Morgan Clark
Hometown: Picton, Ontario
High School: PECI
Career Highlights: Provincial finalist in 50- and 100-yard freestyle, as well as 100-yard backstroke, all four years … provincial finalist in 50-yard butterfly junior year … qualified provincially for age-group nationals and Ontario Junior Internationals … member of honor roll.
Cameron on Clark: "We are very excited to add Morgan to the team. She will come in and help out our sprint freestyle group right away, while adding some depth in the sprint backstroke and butterfly events. She will also be a big contributor on our relays in the future. It will be great having her as a Redbird."
Jordan Peterson
Hometown: Bloomington, Ill.
High School: Bloomington High School
Career Highlights: Competed at state in two events all four years … competed at state in relays junior and senior years … named team MVP freshman through junior years … team captain junior and senior years.
Cameron on Peterson: "Jordan is a local swimmer that has grown up around our program. Coming in this next season she will contribute right away in both our middle distance and distance freestyles, as well adding additional versatility within her other events. We are very excited to add Jordan to the Redbird family."
Morgan Rosser
Hometown: Ames, Iowa
High School: Ames High School
Career Highlights: All-American in 400-yard relay junior and senior year … state champion and record holder in 400-yard freestyle junior and senior years … first-team all-state in the 400-yard relay senior year … second-team all-state in the 200- and 500-yard freestyle junior and senior years … honor roll freshman and sophomore years.
Cameron on Rosser: "Morgan came in late in the recruiting process, but she clicked right away with our team. She will be a contributor in the middle distance and distance events, and we are excited to watch her improve during her time at ISU. We are excited to have her become a Redbird."
Abi Shewchuk
Hometown: Winnipeg, Manitoba
High School: College Sturgeon Heights
Club Team: Manitoba Marlins
Career Highlights: Won 200-yard IM, and 100- and 200-yard backstroke, at Manitoba Province Championships … achieved senior hats cut in the 50-yard backstroke … earned Canadian Trials cut in the 100-yard backstroke … finished third in 200-yard backstroke at Speedo Far Westerns … earned honor roll status all four years.
Cameron on Shewchuk: "Abi is primarily a backstroker who will add some versatility to our group by being able to swim various events for us. We are very excited to have her join our team, and to watch her improve over her career here. She will make a great Redbird."
The Redbird swimming and diving team previously signed four student-athletes to NLIs in November.
