NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State is serving as host for the 2017 Missouri Valley Conference Team Tennis Championships, scheduled for this Friday through Sunday. Admission is free for every match throughout the three-day event.
Nine women's teams and five men's teams will compete in the single-elimination tournament. The women's and men's championship matches will take place Sunday, with the winner of each match earning an MVC title and an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. Matches are scheduled to take place outdoors at the Gregory Street Tennis Courts in Normal, Illinois; however, the Bloomington Tennis Center in Bloomington, Illinois, and the Clubs at River City in Peoria, Illinois, will serve as indoor locations in the event of inclement weather.
Illinois State's women's team enters the MVC Team Tennis Championships as the No. 3 seed after finishing tied for second place in the regular-season standings with a 5-2 league record. The Redbirds face No. 6-seeded Bradley Friday at 3 p.m. The ISU men's team is the No. 5 seed and will face No. 4 Stony Brook Friday at 12 p.m.
