NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State men's and women's track and field teams are set to host the Redbird Invitational at the Redbird Track and Field Complex, Friday and Saturday April 7-8.
The Redbird Invite will begin Friday with the women's hammer throw at 3 p.m., followed by the men's. The rest of the events will occur Saturday starting at 11 a.m. with the men's discus throw. Running events will begin at noon with the 100-meter hurdles prelims. Seniors will be recognized at 12:55 p.m., followed by the national anthem. Competition will concluded at 6:30 p.m. with the men's 1,500-meter run.
During this week, Amanda McClain was named the Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week and Female Field Athlete of the Week for her performance at the EIU Big Blue Classic. McClain turned in another strong performance in the women's long jump at the EIU Big Blue Classic over the weekend as she broke the meet record with a mark of 6.00m (19-08.25) in the long jump, which leads the Missouri Valley Conference. Her mark is also ranked 20th on the NCAA West qualifying list and 44th in the nation. She also ran a leg in the winning 4x400-meter relay.
ISU will be competing against Bradley, Eastern Illinois, Western Illinois, and Loyola. The Illinois men's team, along with the women's teams of Dayton, Northwestern and Northern Illinois will also be competing on Friday and Saturday.
The Illinois state women's team won the Big Blue Classic with a total of 194.50, as they posted several event wins and personal-best performances.
D'Jenne Egharevba is leading the Missouri Valley Conference in the 100-meter dash, as she ran a time of 11.67 at EIU Big Blue Classic. Her time is also the fifth-fastest time in school history and is ranked 27th on the NCAA West qualify list. She also has the third fastest 200-meter dash time in the conference with a time of 24.27.
McClain is leading the Valley in the long jump, 200-meter dash and the 4x400-meter relay. At EIU, McClain ran a 200-meter dash time of 24.07, which is the third-fastest time in school history.
Brandy Thomas had impressive performances at the EIU Big Blue Classic. She won the shot put with a mark of 14.46m (47-05.25) and threw her personal-best hammer throw with a mark of 50.06m (164-03). Thomas's shot put mark is leading the Valley and her hammer throw is ranked sixth.
On the men's side, Derrius Rodgers had a strong performance in the 100-meter dash, as he ran an impressive 10.46, which is the second-fastest time in the Valley. His time is also ranked 18th on the NCAA West qualifying list.
