Muller Selected as Court Coach for USA Basketball Training Camp

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Illinois State's Dan Muller is one of four collegiate head coaches chosen to serve as court coaches for the 2017 USA Basketball Men's U19 World Cup Team training camp, as announced by USA Basketball Friday.

Also serving as court coaches are King Rice of Monmouth, who was an assistant coach at Illinois State from 1993-98, Sean Hanrahan of Warner and Jeremy Shulman of Eastern Florida State College. Muller, Rice, Hanrahan and Shulman will assist the 2017 USA Basketball Men's U19 World Cup Team coaching staff of John Calipari (Kentucky) and assistant coaches Tad Boyle (Colorado) and Danny Manning (Wake Forest) during training camp from June 18-20 at the United States Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Training camp will continue from the United States Olympic Training Center until June 25.

"I cannot wait to get to camp and learn from Coach Calipari, Tad and Danny, while helping the U19 players in any way I can," Muller said. "I will be a sponge while doing whatever is asked of me. This is an absolute honor to be a part of USA Basketball. I will bring enthusiasm, patriotism and passion to every practice and meeting. I cannot wait to coach the heck out of these talented young men."

As two-time defending U19 gold medalists, the United States will look to win its fourth U19 World Cup gold medal in the past five competitions at the July 1-9 event in Cairo, Egypt. Athletes eligible for this team must be 19 years old or younger (born on or after Jan. 1, 1998) and U.S. citizens.

"To be a part of something so much bigger than myself, in USA Basketball, is a dream come true," Muller added. "I have watched USA Basketball with such pride my entire life, and I will work extremely hard to represent my country and this team the right way."

Muller is teaming up with USA Basketball for the first time in his career after a record-setting 2016-17 season at Illinois State, that saw the Redbirds set program bests in total wins (28) and Missouri Valley Conference victories (17) en route to a 28-7 overall record and an MVC regular season title. For his efforts, Muller was named the MVC Coach of the Year and the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association NCAA Division I Coach of the Year.
