NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State men's golf standout Trent Wallace will continue his magical season this weekend when he participates in the NCAA Division I Championship at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Illinois.
Finals play consists of three days of stroke play (54 holes), starting Friday, May 26, through Sunday, May 28, after which the top-15 teams and nine individuals not on an advancing team will be determined. That is followed by a final day of 18 holes of stroke play Monday, May 29, to determine the top eight teams that will advance to match play as well as the 72-hole individual champion.
Wallace, who is the No. 4 seed out of the six individuals who qualified, will tee off Friday's first round at 8:57 a.m. on the first tee, and Saturday at 2:57 p.m. on the 10th tee. He will be playing in the final group of Saturday's second round.
Rich Harvest Farms is a par-72, 7,735-yard golf course. Wetlands, mature trees and Illinois prairie grasses offer boundaries, definition and charm to the entire property. The course plays through wooded hillsides and open fields, making use of the natural streams and wetlands. Maintained natural areas and 100 bunkers add strategic value and visual appeal. Rich Harvest Farms offers some of the country's most challenging and unique golf holes.
Wallace is the first Redbird men's golfer to compete in the national finals since 1975 when Illinois State qualified as a team, led by Redbird legend D.A. Weibring. He qualified for the championship by being the top individual finisher on a non-qualifying team, as he placed seventh (out of 75) at the West Lafayette Regional. Wallace was the leader after 36 holes with a 6-under-par 138, before battling 30 m.p.h. winds in the final round to hang on with a 1-over-par 217 (68-70-79) for the tournament.
The sophomore from Joliet, Illinois, qualified for his second NCAA Regional in as many years by claiming medalist honors for the second year in a row at the Missouri Valley Conference Championship, finishing with a 2-over-par 218 (70-75-73).
