NORFOLK, Va. – The Illinois State swimming and diving team was named a Scholar All-America Team by the College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA), while Rachel Root earned individual Scholar All-America honors, the organization announced Wednesday.
Illinois State earned the team academic honor by posting a team grade-point average (GPA) of 3.51 during the spring semester, easily meeting the CSCAA requirement of a 3.0 team GPA to garner Scholar All-America Team status.
Root earned CSCAA Scholar All-America Honorable Mention status by finishing her collegiate career with a perfect 4.0 cumulative GPA. Root was eligible for the honor by meeting an NCAA 'B cut' standard during the 2016-17 season and maintaining a minimum 3.50 GPA during the spring semester.
Illinois State was also named a CSCAA Scholar All-America Team during the fall semester. Root was previously named a College Sports Information Directors of America Academic All-District selection on May 11.
