Men’s Golf to Compete in NIU’s Northern Intercollegiate Tournament Starting Sunday

NORMAL, Ill. - The Illinois State men's golf team returns to the links Sunday to compete in Northern Illinois' Northern Intercollegiate, Sept. 24-25, at the par-72, 7,656-yard Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Illinois.

The tournament features a 54-hole stroke-play format, with 36 holes slated for Sunday and the final 18 Monday. An 8 am shotgun start begins play the first day, while groups are schedule to start the final round at the same time on holes one and 10. Live scoring throughout the tournament will be available at GolfStatResults.com.

Twelve teams will be competing in the tournament. Joining the Redbirds and the Huskies are Virginia, Purdue, Michigan, Marquette, Wisconsin, Eastern Kentucky, Louisiana-Monroe, Grand Canyon, Loyola-Maryland and Iowa State.

Teams are constructed with five student-athletes, and only the top-four scores count towards the school's overall total in each round.

The Redbirds will be represented by senior Zach Burry, sophomore David Perkins, junior David Rauer, junior Trent Wallace and sophomore Trey Tussey. Freshman Daniel Anfield will also be competing as an individual.

"While we haven't hit our stride yet, I am very encouraged by the toughness and resilience we are showing as a team, and I also like the fact that we have had contributions from everyone in the lineup," head coach Ray Kralis said. "We have some momentum from a strong finish to last week's tournament, and I know the guys are fired about competing at Rich Harvest Farms, the site of last year's national championship. I am looking forward to seeing how we respond and hoping to build on that momentum."
