Four Future Redbirds Nominated for McDonald’s All-American Game

NORMAL, Ill. – Among the prestigious list of high school seniors nominated to play in the 41st annual McDonald's All American Games, scheduled for March 28, were four incoming Redbird freshman. Mary Crompton and Lexy Koudelka are two of only 11 players that were nominated from the state of Iowa. Kayel Newland is one of 12 in the state of Missouri and Ally Gietzel is one of five nominated in the state of Wisconsin. For the full list of athletes here.

A selection committee will choose the top 24 athletes in the country to play in the event at Phillips Arena in Atlanta, Georgia. For more information about the 2018 McDonald's All American Game, click here.

Mary Crompton | Shooting Guard | 5-8 | Iowa City, Iowa | Iowa City Regina HS

Crompton was a two-time River Valley Conference All-Elite Team selection, and was named Coaches Association All-District as a freshman. She was also a two-time Iowa Girls' Coaches Association and two-time Iowa Newspaper Association Class 2A First-Team All-State selection. Crompton led Regina High School to a 51-2 record over the past two seasons and recorded a 3-point shooting percentage of 46.3. In 2016, she was named to the Class 2A State All-Tournament Team.

Ally Gietzel | Guard | 5-10 | Fond du Lac, Wisc. | Fond du Lac HS

Gietzel is an ESPN 3 Star Recruit. In 2016-17, she was named First-Team All-FVA, HM All-State and led her conference in points per game (19.8). In the 2015-16 season Gietzel earned FVA Player of the Year, all-state honors and led the conference with 17.7 points per game

Lexy Koudelka | Power Forward/Center | 6-1 | Nevada, Iowa | Nevada HS

Koudelka is ranked No. 75 in the 2018 class by ESPN HoopGurlz. She is listed as the 14th best center and ranked No. 72 overall by Dan Olson's Collegiate Girls Basketball Report. Koudelka has a long list of accolades, including Iowa Girls' Coaches Association and Iowa Newspaper Association First-Team 3A All-State. She was also named Iowa Newspaper Association 4A First Team All-State.

Kayel Newland | Guard | 6-0 | Kansas City, Mo. | Liberty HS

Newland is a two-time all-conference and all-district player, four-time all-tournament team selection and Courier Tribune Player of the Year. She also broke the Liberty high school record of 3-point shots this season.
