NORMAL, Ill. – The Redbirds women's tennis team starts their spring season with two matches at home against Eastern Illinois and Ball State.
The weekend begins with a match up against EIU on Saturday at 4 p.m. and then Ball State on Sunday at 1 p.m. Both matches will take place at the Bloomington Tennis Center located at 4101 Wicker Rd, Bloomington, Illinois.
Illinois State has not competed since the conclusion of the Redbird duals on Oct. 21 and 22. The team finished their 2017 tournament season with a singles team record of 28-18 and a doubles team record of 19-8. ISU tied for second in the preseason poll with 40 points and two first place votes for the upcoming dual season.
Doubles duo Veronika Golanova and Jelena Karla Vujicic are a team to watch throughout the dual season in both singles and doubles. The pair claimed a first-place title at the Missouri Valley Conference Individual Championships and qualified for the ITA Midwest Regionals in both singles and doubles. Golanova earned a second-place title in flight one singles and Vujicic earned a third-place title in flight two singles at the MVC tournament.
Ivon Mihaleva is another key Redbird, after the newcomer completed her first collegiate tournament season with a singles record of 7-1. She claimed a flight C singles win at the Bradley fall opener and a second-place title in flight four singles at the MVC Individual Championship.
