Women’s Golf Opens Spring Season in Boulder City

NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State women's golf team returns to action Monday for the first time since the Missouri Valley Conference Preview on Oct. 17, when the Redbirds open the spring season, as they travel to Las Vegas, to compete in the Battle at Boulder Creek at the par-72, 6,285-yard Boulder City Golf Course.

The tournament features a 54-hole stroke-play format, with 36-holes being played Monday and the final 18 holes being played Tuesday. Players will be using golf carts to speed up the pace of play.

Representing the Redbirds are senior Kiley Walsh, junior Caitlin Sims, freshman Tatum King, sophomore Paige Seiser and senior Abby Luchtenburg. Sophomore Morgan Savage, junior Leia Atas and freshman Maria Jose Rojas will be competing as individuals.

Teams in the Field: Drake, Idaho State, Illinois State, Northern Colorado, Northern Illinois, South Dakota, Southern Illinois, Southern Utah, Toledo, Weber State

Tee Times: Both days will begin with a 9 a.m. CT shotgun start; 36 holes will be played Monday followed by 18 holes Tuesday. 

Last Time Out

Kiley Walsh fired an impressive even par 72 (32-40) in the final round of the Missouri Valley Conference Preview at the par-72, 7,200-yard Sand Creek Station Golf Course in Newton, Kansas. Walsh produced a three-round total of 8-over-par 224 (80-72-72).  The senior's strong final round helped to earn her a tie for second place on the individual leaderboard. The Redbirds finished the preview in eighth place with a three-round score of 938 (318-306-314).

Caitlin Sims carded a 5-over-par 77 (38-39) in the last round to finish with a 236 (81-78-77). Sims played her last 15 holes at a solid 2-over-par. Tatum King finished one stroke behind Sims over the three rounds by shooting an 82 (40-42) in her final round. King's three-round score was a 237 (79-76-82). Abby Luchtenburg concluded the event with a 244 (78-83-83) and Morgan Savage at 248 (85-80-83).

Paige Seiser led the individuals who competed for the Redbirds with her best score of the event with a 5-over-par 77 (37-40) in the final round to finish at 238 (81-80-77). Leia Atas finished her third round with an 82 (39-43), concluding her tournament at 244 (82-80-82). Maria Jose Rojas finished her second collegiate tournament with a 259 (89-80-90).

The Redbirds travel to Rio Verde, Arizona Feb. 23-25 for the Rio Verde Invitational, hosted by Western Michigan, at Rio Verde Country Club.
