ISU Gymnasts Head To Eastern Michigan

Normal, Ill. – The Illinois State women's gymnastics team travels to Yspilanti, Michigan, to face Mid-American Conference foe Eastern Michigan, Feb. 15,
beginning at 6 p.m.

"EMU is a strong team, and it should be a very good meet," ISU head Coach Bob Conkling said.  "We look forward to building on our improvements and consistency from our last meet."

The Redbirds posted a team season-high score of 192.025 last weekend against Central Michigan. Sophomore all-arounder Gabrielle Cooke finished second with a score of 38.500, aided by her strong performances on floor (9.825), vault (9.750), and uneven bars (9.675).

True Freshman Savannah Remkus tied a personal best score (9.725) on balance beam and placed third overall. Freshman Cameron Topp had a solid performance on the floor exercise, where she tied for sixth place (9.700).

"The team only had a few practices between meets, but made the most out of them," said Conkling. "We will be adding difficulty to our vaults this meet and the team looked solid on the other events in practice."

No. 46 nationally-ranked Eastern Michigan took on Northern Illinois past weekend, where they dropped their third Mid-American Conference dual of year, 195.425-194.900. Senior Jules Schwartz earned a new season-high on vault with a 9.775.
