Yspilanti, Michigan – Illinois State and Eastern Michigan competed against each other for the first time this season, and the Redbirds posted a season-high score of 192.550. The Eagles won the meet however, with a score of 194.000.
"We started off on bars, and it was a solid event," ISU head Coach Bob Conkling said. "We didn't count a fall, and it went that way all the way through the meet. We scored higher than we did in the last meet, and we're on the upswing. We should be scoring higher, but we're on the right track."
The Redbirds were led in the meet by sophomore all-arounder Gabrielle Cooke, who finished second with a season-high score of 39.050. The two-time Midwest Independent Conference Performer of the Week was strong on the floor, tying for second with a score of 9.875. Cooke also took first on the vault with a score of 9.750.
"Gabi broke the 39 barrier on the all-around for the first time this year, and it was great to see," Conkling said. "I'm also very proud of Kylie (Meyer) for having such a strong performance on beam. The beam was a strong event for us this meet, and we will continue to improve."
Meyer had a solid performance on beam, where she held a three-way tie for second place with a score of 9.725. Fellow freshman Savannah Remkus held a personal best score of 9.675 where she tied for fifth place.
"The team felt really confident about the meet, and they kept positive throughout, which showed in their performances," Conkling said.
ISU returns to action Sunday, Feb. 25, in a tri meet against Lindenwood and Iowa State, beginning at 1 p.m. in St. Charles, Missouri.
