NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State sophomore David Perkins has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Golfer of the Week after his performance at the Mobile Sports Authority Intercollegiate on February 12-13.
The East Peoria, Illinois native placed 12th in the field of 80 golfers with an even-par-216 over the three rounds, including a one-under-par 71 in the second round and a three-under-par 69 in the final round of the tournament. He helped lead the Redbirds to a fourth-place finish in the tournament in which ISU gradually improved with scores of 299, 286, and 282 over the three rounds.
The sophomore's even-par 216 this week tied his career best tournament score. He also tied his second-best round of the season with his three-under-par 69 in the final round of the tournament last Tuesday.
Perkins and the Redbirds look to continue their success on February 23-24 at the Seminole Intercollegiate hosted by Florida State in Tallahassee, Florida.
