Normal, Ill. - The Illinois State women's tennis team took their first loss today, after a seven game winning streak to Wright State, 3-4.
Doubles tandem Veronika Golanova and Jana Kustkova were defeated by C. Haller and H. Morgan, 6-1. Three doubles Laura Fitzgerald and Valerija Gercar took the second loss of the match-up against M. Riley and J. Milano, 6-1. The Birds went into singles 0-1 against Wright State.
One singles Golanova continues to lead ISU, defeating her opponent C. Haller, 2-6, 6-3, 6-3, giving the Redbirds their first win of the competition. Ivon Mihaleva was defeated by L. Pelayo, 6-2, 6-0. At two singles Kustkova was defeated by H. Morgan, 6-0, 6-4.
In the fight for three singles, Illinois State's Estelle Vanthier was defeated by M. Riley, 6-4, 7-6(5). Fitzgerald captured the second singles win for the birds against J. Milano, 6-4, 6-4. Giving the Redbirds their third win of the match is Gercar defeating G. Whitney, 7-6(4), 6-4.
ISU returns to play Feb. 25 against Dayton in Dayton, Ohio at 11 a.m.
