NORMAL, Ill. – The Missouri Valley Conference has chosen Veronika Golanova as singles player of the week for back-to-back weeks. Teammate and doubles partner Jana Kustkova was chosen alongside Golanova for doubles team of the week.
This weekend Golanova went 3-0 in singles, winning three matches in three days in the number one spot. She defeated DePauw's A. Seneriratne, 6-3, 6-3, Wright State's K. Haller, 2-6, 6-3, 6-3 and Dayton's Bridgham, 6-3, 6-4. She was chosen the week prior for her outstanding performance and victories over UMSL opponent S. Blenler, 6-2, 6-2 and WIU opponent Bravo, 6-2, 6-3. She is currently on a seven-match winning streak at the one singles spot. Her overall dual match record is 7-2.
The duo of Golanova and Kustkova paired up for the first time this year in the one doubles spot and earned a 2-1 record this weekend. Their first win was over DePauw's Seneviratne and Breda, 8-1 and the second one was over Dayton's Bridgham and Kilstofle, 7-6(1). The tandem faced a 5-2 deficit in the match against Dayton and saved 2 match points. Their win was crucial in securing ISU the doubles point in the match against Dayton.
