Baseball Continues West to Battle Hawai'i

NORMAL, Ill. - The Illinois State baseball team, which took a road series at a Pac-12 school for just the second time in Missouri Valley Conference history, travels further west for a four-game, three-day series at Hawai'i at Les Murkami Stadium.

The Redbirds come into the game with one of the hottest offenses in the country. This season, through 12 games,the team ranks in the top-50 in nine offensive categories including scoring offense (3rd, 9.6), home runs per game (6th, 1.62), slugging percentage (8th, .511), doubles per game (13th, 2.54), total home runs (14th, 21), batting average (16th, .315), total runs (21st, 125), hits (40th, 158), and sacrifice flies (46th, 8). Individually, Owen Miller ranks third in the country in runs per game (1.62), and 14th in hits per game (1.77). 

The Hawai'i series is the final four games of a 16-game road stretch to open the season for the Redbirds, as the squad's next game is on Tuesday, March 20, when the team hosts Illinois at Duffy Bass Field.

Hawai'i (8-6) comes into the game after dropping two of three games in a road trip to 13th ranked LSU. Maaki Yamazaki leads the team's regular players in batting average, and is hitting .311 on the year. Adam Fogel - who is batting .306 - leads the team in runs (nine), doubles (seven), home runs (two), and RBI's (eight). The pitching staff is led by Jackson Rees who is 2-0 in four starts with a 1.42 ERA, striking out 21 and walking just nine in 25.1 innings of work.
