NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State men's tennis team concluded the weekend trip with a 2-5 loss to Grand Canyon University.
The Redbirds took the doubles point as No. 1 doubles duo Igor Kolaric and Christopher Greve defeated Mathieu Rajaonah and Lorenzo Fucile 6-4. Andreas Boers and Pol Botifoll Rius dropped at the two doubles spot in a close 6-3 battle to Valentin Lang and Justin Cvitanovic. Egehan Sertkaya and Cameron Petersen secured the doubles victory as they took down Freddie Grant and Lucas Grego 6-3.
The Redbirds fell short in the singles competitions only capturing one victory as Botifoll Rius picked up a 6-1, 6-4 win over Cvitanovic at No. 5 singles. Boers dropped in a three-set battle as he fell to Lang 6-1, 4-6, 7-5 at three singles. Kolaric dropped at No. 1 singles to Rajaonah 6-1, 6-2 and Greve followed at two singles with a loss to Fucile 6-3, 6-0. Sertkaya competed in No. 4 singles and fell to Grego in a close 6-3, 6-4 match and Petersen was overcome by Grant in another tight competition, falling 7-5, 6-4.
Men's tennis will be back in action next Saturday as they face Summit opponent Valparaiso in Valparaiso, Indiana with a match time of 1 p.m. CT.
