NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State women's tennis team returns home after a week on the road, with a match up against Murray State on Wednesday, March 16 at the Bloomington Tennis Center in Bloomington, Illinois.
The team is currently sitting 9-7 overall this dual season, with Laura Fitzgerald leading the way with the best singles record and doubles team Veronika Golanova and Jana Kustkova leading with the best doubles record.
During her first season as a Redbird, Fitzgerald has the best singles record for ISU. She currently sits at 10-4, only having lost to NIU, Dayton, UIC and Seattle. The freshman is currently moving between the four, five and six singles positions to help accommodate the team.
New doubles pair Golanova and Kustkova have formed a winning team mid-season for ISU. The one doubles tandem currently sits 5-3, only losing to Wright State, Nebraska and UIC.
Following the conclusion of the Murray State match up, ISU moves on to start the Missouri Valley Conference match ups, first against Bradley on March 31. Only six matches remain for the Redbirds including Murray State before the MVC Team Championships are underway.
