NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State's women's tennis team fell short against Murray State this morning 1-6.
One doubles team Veronika Golanova and Jana Kustkova defeated C. Chang and J. Masson, 6-3. Following up with the second doubles win was the tandem of Estelle Vanthier and Laura Fitzgerald defeating A. Hadzic and A. Loncarevic 6-2. ISU entered singles 1-0 over Murray State.
Murrary State claimed the first two singles wins by forfeit, giving them a 2-1 lead. At one singles Golanova fell short to C. Chang, 6-4, 6-0. Vanthier was defeated by A. Hadzic in three singles, 6-0, 6-1. In the fight for two singles Kustkova lost to S. Sharapova 6-2, 6-7(8), 10-7. Fitzgerald lost to S. Loncarevil in the fight for four singles, 7-6(7), 6-4.
The Redbirds return to play March 31 at home for their first Missouri Valley Conference match against Bradley. The match will begin at 1 p.m. and will be held at the Bloomington Tennis Center in Bloomington, Illinois.
