Cooke Named MIC Gymnast of the Year

ST. CHARLES, Mo.  – Illinois State sophomore gymnast Gabrielle Cooke was named the Midwest Independent Conference Gymnast of the Year Thursday night, at a banquet held the night before the start of the MIC Championships at Hyland Arena.

A three-time MIC Performer of the Week in 2018, Cooke has been one of the top all-around gymnasts in the conference this season. The Chicago, Illinois, native has recorded five scores of 38.850, and has scored over 39.000 in the all-around in three meets this season. Her season-high all-around score of 39.250 tied for second in the conference this year, and she is currently ranked second in the MIC with a 38.955 regional qualifying score (RQS). 

Cooke is also ranked second in the MIC on the floor, and her season-high mark of 9.900 tied for the highest in the league. She is also ranked seventh on the vault, 12th on the beam, and 17th on the bars. She and the rest of her Redbird teammates will compete for a conference title Friday night beginning at 6 p.m.
