NORMAL, Ill. – After battling the cold and wind, the Illinois State men's golf team currently sits in second place on their home turf at the D.A Weibring Intercollegiate. The Redbirds shot a 30-over-par 598 through the first two rounds at the par-71, 6,915-yard Weibring Golf Club. Duke currently leads the 17-team field with a 19-over-par 587 through the first day.
Senior Zach Burry fired a 3-over-par 74 in the first round, followed by a 2-over-par 73 in the second round. The senior shot five birdies on the day to currently sit in seventh place on the individual leaderboard.
Sophomore David Perkins sits right behind Burry in a tie at ninth place on the individual leaderboard. Perkins shot a 5-over-par 76 in the first round, but bounced back with a 2-over-par 73 in the second round. The sophomore tagged on seven birdies throughout the first two rounds.
Junior Trent Wallace produced the third-best score for the Redbirds with a 7-over-par 78 followed by a 5-over-par 76. Wallace included four birdies in the first two rounds to sit at a tie at 38th on the individual leaderboard.
Junior David Rauer shot a 13-over-par 84 in the first round, but the junior fought back with three birdies in the back nine to complete the second round with an even-par 71.
Freshman Daniel Anfield rounded out the scoring for the Redbirds with a 6-over-par 77 in the first round, followed by an 8-over par 79 to wrap up the second round. The freshman tagged on five birdies throughout the first day of the tournament.
The Redbirds conclude their tournament Sunday morning with the third and final round beginning at 9:45 a.m. CT.
