SEATTLE – After facing back-to-back Ohio Valley Conference opponents the past two weekends, the Illinois State baseball program will head west to face Pac-12 stalwart Washington to begin its spring break trip. The Redbirds (5-4) and the Huskies (6-5) will kick off a four-game series Friday and conclude it Monday at Husky Ballpark.
ISU picked up a series win last weekend at Morehead State, winning the first two games of the series 16-8 and 13-10. Overall, the Redbirds have scored 10 or more runs six times this season and have won three our their last four contests. The 'Birds currently lead the Missouri Valley Conference in five offensive categories and have hit 16 homers, scored 102 runs and are batting .343 through nine games with Jordan Libman (.474), Owen Miller (.429) and Collin Braithwaite (.417) all entering the weekend with batting averages over .400.
Washington is 2-2 over the last week of action after winning its first two games at the DQ Pac-12/Big Ten Baseball Classic, losing its series finale and dropping a Tuesday game against Seattle U. UW ninth-year head coach Lindsay Meggs won his 850th career game last week vs. Michigan State. Meggs is 851-525-5 (.618) overall in his 25-year career, including time spent in The Valley at Indiana State.
