NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State gymnastics program added a strong all-around gymnast to its roster for the 2018-19 season, as head coach Bob Conkling announced the signing of Charlise Doctor (Virginia Beach, Virginia).
Â
"We expect Charlise will come in as a strong contributor on each of the four events, but has shown throughout her career to be especially strong on the vault and uneven bars," Conkling said. "Charlise has had great success throughout her gymnastics career, including being a three-time Junior Olympic National Qualifier and will be competing this weekend to try to qualify for a fourth time. Â We are very excited to welcome Charlise into our Redbird family and look forward to having this talented young lady help contribute to our team's future success."
Doctor was the 2016 state vault and bars champion, and finished fourth in the all-round as well. She was also the regional vault champion and recorded second-place finishes on bars, floor and the all-around on way to being a Junior Olympic National Qualifier. In 2017, Doctor earned her second-straight state championship on bars and finished second in the all-around, while also qualifying for the Junior Olympics. So far in 2018, she won her second state vault championship and finished third in the all-around, with a trip to the Junior Olympic Nationals on the line this weekend.
