NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State men's basketball coach Dan Muller has announced that former San Jose State guard and Champaign, Illinois, native Jaycee Hillsman has signed to compete for the Redbirds.
"Jaycee is a terrific addition to our basketball program," said Muller. "He will bring great experience to our team next year and be able to step right in the following year with the loss of some of our bigger wings. Jaycee is a very physical wing that can play multiple positions on both ends of the court. I can't wait to get him to campus this summer and get to work!"
Hillsman will sit out the 2018-19 season in accordance with the NCAA Transfer Residency requirement, before having one year to play for Illinois State in 2019-20.
Last season at San Jose State, Hillsman played in all 30 games and made 13 starts. He was the third-leading scorer on the team, averaging 9.6 points per game. He made 41 percent of his shots from the field, 34 percent (27-of-79) from long range, and 81 percent (82-of-101) from the charity stripe.
Over his three seasons with the Spartans, Hillsman played in 90 games, starting 52 times. He scored 601 points over his three seasons, and grabbed 242 rebounds and 144 assists.
Before San Jose State, he attended Thomas More High School for his freshman and sophomore seasons, and averaged 17.8 points per game as a sophomore.
