NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State senior catcher Collin Braithwaite has been named to the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-District Baseball Team, selected by CoSida, which recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.
First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the Google Cloud Academic All-America® ballot, with first- and second-team Academic All-America® honorees to be announced in June.
Braithwaite was named to the All-District 5 team, which includes student-athletes from the states of Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio. He has a 3.97 grade point average in Spanish, and is one of just two student-athletes in the Missouri Valley Conference to earn a spot on the Academic All-District team.
The Johnny Bench Award Watch List selection, Braithwaite is batting .283 with 20 extra-base hits including 15 doubles and four home runs. His 33 RBI's are second-most on the team, while he has also drawn a team-best 23 walks. He has scored 33 runs and has a .451 slugging percentage.
Illinois State returns to action on Friday, May 10, when the Redbirds host the Valparaiso Crusaders in a three-game series at Duffy Bass Field.
