ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Illinois State sophomore David Perkins has been named to the 2018 Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Men's Golf Scholar-Athlete First Team.
The criteria for the MVC scholar-athlete team parallels the CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) standards for its Academic All-America® program. Nominees must have at least a 3.20 cumulaÂtive grade point average (4.0 scale), while the student-athletes must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at their institutions and must have participated in at least 50 percent of his team's rounds or played at the MVC Championship.
Perkins, a native of East Peoria, Illinois, has a 3.46 grade point average in psychology. He had the team's second-best scoring average on the season, and sixth-best in the MVC. He played in every round for the Redbirds, and had six top-15 finishes during the season. He shot at or below par in 14 rounds, and at least once in 11 of 12 tournaments.
He finished in a tie for seventh place at the 2018 MVC Championships, and was in the team's top two in 8 of 12 tournaments. He had a low round of 68 (-4) at the Northern Illinois Tournament on September 24.
