NORMAL, Ill. – Recent Major League Baseball draftee Owen Miller is adding to his trophy case, as he was named to the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings NCAA Division I All-Midwest Region First Team. The teams are voted on by members of the American Baseball Coaches Association and the process is led by the ABCA NCAA Division I All-America Committee.
ABCA/Rawlings All-Region First Team selections are nominated for ABCA/Rawlings All-America honors. The ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Division I All-Americans will be announced on Saturday, June 16. The finalists for the ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Division I Gold Glove Team will be announced on Twitter on Monday, June 18, and the Gold Glove Teams will be announced on Wednesday, June 20.
Miller led the Redbirds by batting .384 during the season, while also stealing a team-high eight bases. He was second on the team in runs (45), and had 15 doubles, six home runs, 35 RBI's, and a slugging percentage of .537. His 88 hits on the season set the single-season school record.
He was drafted in the third round of the MLB draft, taken with the 84th pick by the San Diego Padres.
