Bryson, Wilson Lead Hot Shooting Redbirds Past IUPUI, 82-63

Tarise Bryson scored 17 points and Traves Wilson added 15 off the bench to lead four Redbirds in double figures as Illinois State cruised to an 82-63 victory over IUPUI Saturday at Redbird Arena. Illinois State, 6-1, got 36 points from its bench and shot 52 percent from the field en route to its fifth straight victory. ISUs bench brigade, led by Wilson with 15 and Shawn Jeppson with 10, played a key role in the victory as all 12 Redbirds notched playing time. The Redbirds used a 22-10 blitz over the first 10 minutes of the second half to open up a 22-point bulge. The Redbirds turned on the defense and limited the Jaguars to 32 percent shooting from the field, including 28 percent in the decisive second period. The Birds, keyed by their defense and 21 Jaguar turnovers, literally ran IUPUI out of the building with a 22-2 advantage in fast break points. IUPUI, 4-6, was led by Don Carlisle, who poured in a game-high 22 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, while Lance Williams chipped in with 14 points. Bryson, the leading scorer in the Missouri Valley Conference, notched another solid all-around game with 17 points, on 6-of-10 shooting from the field, with four assists and four steals. Shedrick Ford turned in another solid performance for the Birds with 12 points and three rebounds before fouling out. Rich Beyers also looked strong in a starting performance with five points and a team-high nine rebounds. Cedric Knight also played a key role with eight points and five rebounds. The Redbirds return to action against Georgia Southern at Redbird Arena on December 28.
