NORMAL, Ill. -
Leaving the state of Indiana and traveling 203 miles down to Illinois State, Britt Knutson has signed a National Letter of Intent to play golf for the Redbirds and brings an impressive resume with her.
Attending Marian High School, Knutson earned All-Conference Honors as well as qualified for the State Championship all four years. With a scoring average of 74.5 and a United States Golf Association index of 1.9, Knutson will blend well with the veteran `Birds. She had a fourth place finish with scores even lower than her average (72,73) at the Indiana High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) State Championship, as well as taking second place at the IHSAA Sectional and Regional with scores of 72 and 76.
Throughout her 2005 season, Knutson also achieved seven top three finishes in high school invitationals, which included two wins. In her summer 2005 season she qualified for the US Junior Girls Championship and had a second place finish in the first flight of the Women's Western Golf Association (WWGA) Junior National Championship.
Knutson not only excelled on the golf course, but excelled in the classroom as well, achieving a 4.19 grade point average on a 4.0 scale. Redbird head coach Ray Kralis, the 2005 Central Illinois Professional Golfers' Association Teacher of the Year, is excited about Knutson joining his team.
"Britt is an impact player both on the golf course and in the classroom," said Kralis. "She is exactly the type of student-athlete we hope to attract to Illinois State. With her success on the state and national level, she has proven she can compete with the best players in the country, and she will be a tremendous asset to our program. I look for her to play a big role on our team immediately upon her arrival on campus."
Knutson received All-State Honors and is second in All-State points. Knutson showed she is ready to leave her high school mascot the Knights and become a Redbird for the 2006-07 season.
