COLUMBIA, Mo. -
The Illinois State women's tennis team finished its second day of the Mizzou Mock-Duals in Columbia, Mo., Saturday, with wins over Missouri and Saint Louis.
After Friday's flight A doubles wins, the pair of Katri Miller and Véronique Parke-Bédard came out with another victory over Missouri's, Erika Josbena and Amanda Pratzel with a score of 9-8 (11-9).
In flight B doubles, Carolyne Parent and Julia Zubkova, also defeated Missouri opponents, Erika Josbena and Amanda Pratzel, 9-8, while flight C doubles pair, Jeanelle Stines and Matea Simovic lost to Charlotte Bellis and Chrissy Svetlic, also of Missouri, 8-6.
After playing Missouri in doubles, the `Birds switched up their pairs to compete against Saint Louis. Katerina Lozanova and Tara Grant of Missouri defeated the flight A doubles pair, Miller and Simovic, 8-6, before Parent and Zubkova lost to their opponents, Amanda Hellberg and Ana Renda, 8-5 in flight B. In flight C, Redbirds Parke-Bédard and Stines came together for the last doubles match of the day with a win over Saint Louis' Joe Becker and Rachel McCullagh, 8-4.
In singles, against Saint Louis, the Redbirds saw success. Miller lost the first, flight A match against Amanda Hellberg, 7-6 (5), 7-6 (4), but the Redbirds pulled through with the remaining five matches against Saint Louis. Zubkova, Parke-Bédard, Parent, Stines and Simovic all beat their opponents, proving to Saint Louis that they were the better team.
Head coach Chris Hoover was pleased with Saturday's results and hopes that the success will continue on into the third day of the tournament.
"We played much better today," said Hoover. "Tomorrow, in our match against Iowa State, our plan is to keep fighting and keep competing in the way that Illinois State women's tennis is known to compete."
Sunday will conclude the Mizzou Mock-Duals. First serve is set for 10 a.m. at the Green Tennis Center in Columbia, Mo.
