SAINT LOUIS, Mo. -
Freshman Laura Harris earned Missouri Valley Conference Golfer of the Week honors for the first time in her career after tying for second-place at the Saluki Invitational March 25-26. Harris led the Illinois State women's golf team to a third-place finish at the Hickory Ridge Golf Course in Carbondale, Ill.
Harris, a New Minas, Nova Scotia, native has just recently been back in the Redbird lineup. Harris suffered an injury following the first tournament, that forced her to sit out the fall season. During her first round back this season at the Rio Verde Invitational (3/9/07), she tallied a 74, a career-low round.
This week Harris bested her career-low round, firing a 148 (75, 73). Her low round of 73 tied the second-lowest round of the tournament. The competition included seven other Valley teams and six non-conference teams.
Harris and the `Birds will return to action April 6-7 at the Illini Spring Classic in Urbana, Ill.
