Sept. 27, 2007

NORMAL, Ill. - In conjunction with the community-sponsored "Worldwide Day of Play," the Illinois State department of athletics will hold "Kids Day," featuring the cartoon character Dora the Explorer, at the Reggie Fun Zone prior to Saturday's home football game between the No. 16 Redbirds and third-ranked Northern Iowa Panthers.

The event, which is free to the public, runs from 11 a.m.-1:15 p.m. The fun zone is located on ISU's practice field, north of Horton Fieldhouse. Several student-athletes will be on hand and interacting with the attending kids. Several large inflatables will be in the zone, face painting by the "Zoo Lady" will be offered and various food items will be available for purchase. If parents bring a camera, their kids will have the opportunity to have his or her photo taken with Dora the Explorer.

Family packs, which feature four general admission tickets, will be offered for $20 for the Northern Iowa game.

"We're excited to be a part of World Wide Day of Play and to be hosting these special activities for children in our community," said assistant athletics director/marketing and promotions Brad Ledford. "This event, along with the game featuring two nationally ranked teams, will provide quality entertainment for all ages. We look forward to seeing everyone on Saturday."

The Worldwide Day of Play will be a community-wide event in Bloomington-Normal. Various events will also be held at the uptown Children's Discovery Museum, Maxwell Park and Tipton Park. The Worldwide Day of Play is being dubbed the official day to turn off all electrical items, get off the couch and go play.
