Swimming and Diving Starts Season with Red/White Scrimmage

Sept. 28, 2007

Normal, Ill. - Illinois State's swimming and diving team starts its 2007-08 season at home with the Red/White Scrimmage Saturday at Horton Pool. The scrimmage has been an ongoing tradition for ISU, and prepares the members of the team for the upcoming meets.

Head coach Steve Paska feels that this meet is an important tool for the student-athletes and the coaching staff to see where they are at in this stage of the season.

"This gives us all a chance to see the team compete in this kind of atmosphere while preparing them for upcoming meets," said Paska. "It is the first evaluation tool that the staff and I utilize for the lineup in future meets this season."

Paska is happy with where the team is at in this stage of the season.

"It has been uplifting to watch the team practice," said Paska. "They have been training with intensity on a daily basis and have made some tremendous strides these past few weeks. I am anxiously waiting to see how these weeks of training with weights and in the pool have paid off."

The inter-squad scrimmage allows the newcomers to familiarize themselves with the collegiate level of competition and the veterans to get back into the competition mode.

"By witnessing them perform we can see where they stand now, and which student-athletes are up for the challenge at the early stage of the season," Paska said. "This meet is the first step to prepare us for the Akron Invitational later this year."

The Red/White Scrimmage is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Horton Pool.
