Koshman Named MIC Gymnast of the Week

Jan. 16, 2008

NORMAL, Ill. - For the first time this season, Illinois State junior co-captain Meaghan Koshman was awarded the Midwest Independent Conference (MIC) gymnast of the week. Koshman received the award for her outstanding routines against Central Michigan on Sunday.

Koshman was the only Redbird to compete in the all-around event against the Chippewas. Tying her career best at 9.850 on the vault, Koshman won the vault, floor (9.750) and all-around (38.600) events. She was also ranked second on the uneven bars.

Koshman is ranked No. 1 for the individual events of vault, floor and all-around in the MIC. She is also ranked second in the conference on the uneven bars.

Head Coach Bob Conkling feels that it is a well-earned award for Koshman. Her hard work and dedication has paid off.

"Meaghan has been one of the top gymnasts in the conference for the past two years," said Conkling. "She is one of the top vault winners in the conference. She has also been to two regional competitions. Her confidence level has gone up in all four of her events. It is a great accomplishment for Meaghan. She is at the best place both physically and mentally in her college career. She worked hard and deserves this honor."

The Illinois State gymnastics team will compete in its second meet on Friday Jan. 18, 2008 at Muncie, Ind. against Ball State. It will be the first away meet for the Redbirds.
