EVANSVILLE, Ind. -
Sophomore center Nicolle Lewis led the Redbirds to a 37-29 halftime lead over Evansville with 14 points in the first half of the MVC-opener for both teams. Lewis is a perfect 7-for-7 from the field in the opening period and has been the catalyst of a Redbird offense that has shot a season-best .615 from the field. Lewis also added a game-high six rebounds.
Lewis made three jumpers to start the game and give the Redbirds a 6-4 lead. They then moved the ball outside as senior guard Tiffany Hudson, sophomore guard Maggie Krick and freshman guard Shala Jackson all made three-pointers to extend the ISU lead to double-digits, 21-11, at the 12:45 mark. Evansville tried to come back with an 11-4 run that cut the deficit down to three points, 25-22. The Redbirds held the Purple Aces at bay by outscoring them 12-7 to close out the half and take a 37-29 lead into the locker room.
