Koshman and Schick Compete at Regionals

Final Stats

NORMAN, Okla. - Junior co-captain Meaghan Koshman and freshman Erica Schick represented the Illinois State gymnastics team in the 2008 National Collegiate Women's Gymnastics Championships. Schick placed ninth in the all-around competition, while Koshman finished in 17th place. The competition was held in Norman, Okla., hosted by Oklahoma.

Head coach Bob Conkling was proud of both gymnasts and thought they did an excellent job.

"Erica did a fantastic job," said Conkling. "She did great and handled herself very well. Erica did great on all four events. Meaghan did excellent on the vault and her floor routine. They both did great and I am very proud of them."

Schick received an overall score of 38.575, while Koshman finished with a 37.400.

Koshman performed first on the balance beam. She received a score of 8.850, which was her lowest score of the season. The floor routine was Koshman's second event. She performed well and received a score of 9.725.

Koshman continued to gain momentum as the evening went on. In her third rotation, she competed on the vault and scored a 9.800.The night ended for Koshman on the uneven bars. She received a tally of 9.025.

Schick started the evening on the floor routine. She received a tally of 9.675. Schick rotated over to the vault for her second event, where she scored a 9.575.

Schick was stronger as the night went on. In her third event on the uneven bars, Schick scored a 9.750, which was only a few marks off of her career-best a 9.775. Schick's final event of the night was the balance beam. She scored a 9.575 on the event.

Host Oklahoma (195.875) and Alabama (197.300) are the top-two teams that will be advancing onto the NCAA Championship. The top-two all-around gymnasts that will also advance are Nicole Cowart and Allison Buckley, both of Illinois. The championships will be held in Athens, Ga. on April 24-26.
