NORMAL, Ill. -
Former Toronto player Natalia Lech will be wearing red and white in the fall as Illinois State's women's tennis head coach Chris Hoover announced the transfer's signing. Hoover believes Lech, who has been undefeated in singles play the past two seasons, will add to the Redbirds' already talented 2008-09 roster.
"She is a good pick-up for the team and the university," said Hoover. "She is excited to play at a more competitive level and can't wait to start."
Lech led the Blues to their fourth-consecutive women's tennis Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Provincial Championship in the 2007-08 season, and she was named an OUA All-Star.
Before college, Lech competed on a club team in Poland, and she was ranked No. 11 in Poland among age-16 players. Lech also helped the team to win the age 16-category Polish Team Championship and a second-place finish in the age-18 category Polish Team Championship.
Lech moved to Canada two years ago, and now, she hopes to extend her winning streak at Illinois State.
Lech enters ISU as a junior and will have two years of athletic eligibility remaining.
