After leading the Redbirds to their second-consecutive top-10 finish of the season, Illinois State's Joe Emerich was named the Missouri Valley Conference Golfer of the Week, as announced by the league office Wednesday afternoon. Emerich tied for 18th at Monday and Tuesday's three-round Kansas Invitational.
In Monday's 36-hole round, Emerich carded a 5-over-par 149 (76-73), and sat in 30th place. But he fought back with a 1-over par 73 Tuesday, climbing to a team-best tie for 18th place at the conclusion of the event. Emerich finished the tournament with a three-round total of 6-over-par 222.
Emerich was joined by Tommy Bliefnick and Will Cullen in the individual top-25, with both shooting a 7-over-par 223 to tie for 22nd overall. The Redbirds finished ahead of Valley foes Northern Iowa and Evansville in the 16-team field.
Illinois State will travel to Broken Arrow, Okla., to compete in the ORU Shoot-Out at the Golf Club of Oklahoma Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 29-30.
