EVANSTON, Ill. - Illinois State's sophomore Filip Miljevic won two consolation singles matches Saturday at the Wildcat Invitational, as the Redbirds concluded day two of the tournament.

In the Flight A singles consolation bracket, sophomore Miljevic bested Ben Hartman of DePaul early Saturday morning winning, 6-0, 6-1. Miljevic then went on to defeat Toledo's Jay Miller in a two set match, 6-3, 6-1. The Redbird will finish out the consolation bracket Sunday.

In further singles play, senior Daniel Tobar defeated Tim Cadet (DePaul) in a super tiebreaker, 7-6, 1-6, (10-8) in round 16 of the Flight B singles. Tobar was setback in the quarterfinals by Iowa's Tommy George falling, 6-3, 6-1.

"Filip played much better in singles today," said head coach Cris James. "I saw big improvement from Friday. Iowa was a tough competitor for Daniel. It was probably his best match, but he didn't play with confidence. The nice thing about the fall tournaments is getting another opportunity to play well. Hopefully, Daniel can go out there Sunday and make up for today."

The doubles tandem of Tobar and Miljevic fell to Marc Dwyer and Alex Thams (Northwestern) in Flight A of the doubles consolation quarterfinals, 8-4.

"It takes time to develop chemistry to play well together," said James. "We'll see if these guys end up pairing together later in the year."
