LAFAYETTE, La. -
Sophomore Filip Miljevic earned the sole point for the Illinois State men's tennis team, as the team concluded play Wednesday against the Ragin' Cajuns of University of Louisiana-Lafayette (ULL). The Redbirds fell to ULL, 5-1, at the Cajun Courts. Illinois State's spring record falls to 3-7.
In singles, Miljevic posted a, 6-2, 6-3, victory over Piotr Olechowski at the No. 3 singles position, gaining the lone point for the `Birds. Illinois State was unable to stop the Ragin' Cajuns at the other singles positions. Freshman Micah LeMoine's match against Neil Schneider at the No. 6 singles slot went unfinished, causing the match to end in a 5-1 defeat over the Redbirds.
The doubles tandem of Michael Hobson and Timon Reichelt defeated Arlen Domoney and Yanick Mandl, 8-4, at the No. 2 doubles position. The Redbird pair of Skip Span and Miljevic suffered an 8-6 loss against Piotr Banas and Piotr Olechowski at the No. 1 spot.
"We played with much better determination against Louisiana-Lafayette," said head coach Cris James. "In practice, we've been focusing on trying to stay positive throughout the entire match and many of the guys made significant improvements from our previous matches. Filip had been struggling a little bit before with confidence, however he came out and played with a lot of determination in both his singles and doubles matches."
"We`re looking forward to tomorrow's match against Southeastern," added James. "It's a quick turn-around for us. We're trying to taking care of our bodies and get enough sleep."
The Redbirds are looking to bounce back, as the team travels to Hammond, La., Thursday to compete against the Lions of Southeastern Louisiana. The match is set to begin at noon at the Southeastern Tennis Complex.
