NORMAL, Ill. -
Junior Stacey Miller was named the Missouri Valley Conference Golfer of the Week, as announced by the league office Wednesday afternoon after she led the Illinois State women's golf team to a first-place finish at the Baylor Spring Invitational. The win was the team's highest finish of the fall and spring seasons. Miller tied for fourth place after carding a 12-over-par three-round score of 228 (77-75-76).
"Stacey winning this award two weeks in a row is a testament to how well she has played throughout the spring," said head coach Darby Sligh. "I am excited to see her back at the top of her game after such a great fall season. She is starting to show the consistency of which I know she is capable. There is definitely more to come from such a talented and driven student-athlete. She will be one to watch the rest of the year."
On Monday, the Bloomington, Ill., native recorded a 36-hole total of 152 (77-75), and finished the day in a four-way tie for ninth place. Miller worked her way up the leaderboard in the third, and final, round by shooting a 4-over-par 76, and moved from ninth place up to fourth place.
The honor marked the second week in a row that Miller has won the MVC Golfer of the Week honor. ISU has claimed four MVC Golfer of the Week awards this spring season from Marci Hill, Tiffany Hockensmith and Miller.
Miller was joined by junior teammate Marisa Milligan as a top-10 individualist at the tournament, while junior Laura Harris rounded out the Redbirds that finished in the top-25. ISU defeated the field of 14 teams with a team total of 927 (308-307-312).
The `Birds will return to the course April 6-7 at the Indiana University Invitational. The tournament will be held at the Otter Creek Golf Club.
