Redbird Tennis Sweeps Creighton, 7-0

OMAHA, Neb. - The Illinois State men's tennis team gained another Valley win, as the Redbirds triumphed over the Creighton Bluejays, 7-0, Saturday, at the Koch Family Tennis Center in Omaha, Neb. With the win, Illinois State (7-9) improved to 2-1 in the Valley, as Creighton dropped to 3-9 overall and 0-5 in the conference.

The Redbirds went unblemished in doubles, as Daniel Tobar and Micah LeMoine defeated Jose Guerra and Michael Elson, 8-5, at the No. 2 position. At No. 1, Skip Span and Filip Miljevic topped Gabe Nagy and Brian Ward, 8-3, while Xavier Riart-Ferrer and Timon Reichelt beat James McAvoy and Kyle Obermeier, 8-3, at the No. 3 doubles spot.

All but one singles match finished in two sets, as Miljevic earned a, 6-3, 6-2, victory over Nagy, in No. 2 singles. Tobar won in three sets against McAvoy, 1-6, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 4, as Span topped Guerra, 6-1, 7-5, at the No. 1 slot.

Other singles victories for Illinois State, Reichelt at the No. 3 position, claimed a, 6-3, 6-1, win over Obermeier. LeMoine outplayed Ward, 6-4, 7-6, and Riart-Ferrer defeated Bryan Lube, 6-2, 6-2.

"We came in confident and ready to play," said head coach Cris James. "Xavier is showing much improvement with each match he's played since his (foot) injury. Hopefully, we are well-prepared for Sunday's match against Drake."

Illinois State travels to Des Moines, Iowa to compete against Valley favorite, Drake, Sunday (April 12). The match will be held at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center, and will begin at 11 a.m.
