DES MOINES, Iowa - Sophomore Timon Reichelt and junior Michael Hobson picked up the sole win for the Illinois State men's tennis team Sunday (April 12), after the duo beat Drake in No. 2 doubles. Despite the victory, the Redbirds fell to Drake, 7-0, at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center in Des Moines, Iowa. Illinois State's record dropped to 7-10 overall and 2-2 in the Valley, while Drake (12-9) improved its Valley record to 5-0.

In doubles, Reichelt and Hobson defeated Mauricio Ballivian and Ivan Mendoza, 8-7(8), at the No. 2 position, as Cesar Bracho and Maor Zirkin topped Skip Span and Filip Miljevic, 8-3, at No. 1. Daniel Tobar and Micah LeMoine suffered an 8-4 loss to Guilherme Marsiglia and Ricardo Lau in No. 3 doubles.

Despite their success in doubles, Reichelt fell to Ballivian 7-5, 6-1, at the No. 2 position, while Hobson dropped his match to Mendoza, 6-3, 6-3, at No. 4.

Illinois State's head coach Cris James was disappointed with the loss, but is looking ahead to the upcoming competition.

"This was a disappointing loss," said James. "We're as competitive as Drake, but we weren't able to maintain our intensity. However, instead of dwelling on the loss we are focusing on what's ahead of us. We have our last two regular-season matches next weekend. I'm hoping we'll learn from this and finish the season strong."

The Redbirds will close out their regular-season by hosting conference foes Southern Illinois and Indiana State, April 18-19, at the Gregory Street Tennis Courts in Normal, Ill. ISU will face the Salukis Saturday (April 18) and Indiana State on Sunday (April 19). Both matches are set for a 1 p.m. start time.
