ST. LOUIS, Mo. -
Juniors Laura Harris and Stacey Miller have earned another Missouri Valley Conference award. The duo was named to the 2008-09 MVC Women's Golf Scholar-Athlete First Team, as announced by the league office Wednesday. Harris and Miller were named the All-MVC Team at the conclusion of the State Farm MVC Championships.
"This entire team works so hard in the classroom and on the course," said head coach Darby Sligh. "I'm excited that they both have been rewarded for their efforts this season."
Miller, a Bloomington, Ill., native earned MVC Golfer of the Week honors four times during the season, while winning three individual titles. Miller's most recent win came at the 2009 State Farm MVC Championships. Miller, along with Harris, competed in the most rounds on the team with 31. Harris recorded a scoring average of 78.5. Harris finished the MVC Championships in a tie for 20th place. She recorded her low round of 74 three times during the season at the Wolverine Invitational, UNC-Greensboro Starmount Fall Classic and the Indiana Invitational.
Nominees for the MVC Scholar-Athlete must have at least a 3.00 cumulative grade point average (4.00 scale), the student-athletes must have reached sophomore status academically and athletically, while competing in 50 percent of their team's rounds or played in the MVC Championships.
The Scholar-Athlete First Team is also made up of Kayley Bodine (Indiana State), Bari Erais (Bradley), Krista Hrdlicka (Wichita State), Olivia Lansing (Drake) and Breanne Smith (Indiana State). Honorable mention honors went to Megan Bartlett (Wichita State) and Vandi Gooch (Evansville).
Harris, Miller and the ISU women's golf team will be back in action May 7-9 at the NCAA Central Regional in Columbus, Ohio.
