Women's Tennis to Play Illinois Chicago

March 13, 2010

NORMAL, Ill. - The Redbird pair of Hannah Esker and Carmen Peters will try to continue their doubles winning streak to ten as the Illinois State women's tennis team plays the Flames of Illinois Chicago (UIC) Sunday March 14, in Chicago, Ill.

"We look forward to playing Illinois Chicago," head coach Chris Hoover said. "UIC is always tough to beat and is always a close match. We won last year and they won the year before that so we always seem to switch off. I expect for it to be a tough match but we're on a good winning streak right now."

Coming off of a successful spring break trip in Orlando, Esker and Peters now hold a 9-2 dual doubles record. The pair defeated Lauren Wilmarth and Emily Herb of University of Connecticut, 8-3, along with Carrie Jansen and Katie Elfison of South Dakota State, 8-1.

Illinois State now holds a 9-3 record on the season and finished 2-0 while in Orlando. The Redbirds first defeated University of Connecticut, 7-0, on Sunday March 7, and continued their success against South Dakota State, 7-0, on Tuesday March 9.

The Redbirds lead the all-time series over the Flames, 9-2. The last time the two teams met was March 20, 2009 at the Evergreen Racquet Club, where Illinois State topped UIC, 6-1.

Illinois Chicago's last match was against Wyoming on March 7, where the Flames fell, 7-0. The loss ended Illinois Chicago's six-match winning streak and was their first loss since Feb. 6.

The first serve is set for 1 p.m. at the Flames Tennis Facility.
