Illinois State freshman outside hitter Shannon McGlaughlin was named Missouri Valley Conference Freshman of the Week after the opening weekend of the 2010 volleyball season. McGlaughlin had a stellar performance at the Corvallis Invitational to lead ISU to its first 3-0 start since 1992.
McGlaughlin was named to the all-tournament team at the Corvallis Invitational for the champion Redbirds, recording 43 kills and 26 digs over the three matches.
In her collegiate debut against Sacramento State, McGlaughlin had 17 kills, the second-most on the team, and two service aces. She followed that with 13 kills and just three errors for a .333 hitting percentage against Portland. In the final match against Oregon, she had another 13 kills and a .322 hitting percentage.
Illinois State hosts Loyola-Chicago in its 2010 home opener Tuesday at 7:05 p.m.
